The Ghost Fields is the seventh book in Elly Griffiths' Dr. Ruth Galloway Mysteries series.
It's a sweltering summer in Norfolk when a construction crew unearths a downed American fighter plane from World War II, with a body still inside. Forensic archaeologist Dr. Ruth Galloway determines that the skeleton couldn't possibly be the pilot. DNA tests reveal the man to be Fred Blackstock, a local aristocrat who has been presumed dead for decades – a revelation that greatly unsettles his family.
Adding to the complications, a television company arrives to film a documentary about Norfolk's deserted air force bases, known locally as the "ghost fields," some of which the Blackstock family now uses as a pig farm. As filming commences, Ruth notices a mysterious man observing Fred Blackstock's memorial service. Then, human bones are discovered on the Blackstock's land. As a fierce storm approaches, Ruth and DCI Harry Nelson must unravel the secrets of the past and present to find a killer.
