The Hammer of Thor is the second book in Rick Riordan's Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard series. Six weeks after the events of The Sword of Summer, Magnus has settled into his afterlife in Hotel Valhalla, though "normal" is a relative term when you're an einherji training for Ragnarok. His newfound peace is shattered when the thunder god Thor's hammer, Mjolnir, goes missing again. This time, however, it's not just misplaced; it has fallen into enemy hands, and if it's not retrieved quickly, the mortal worlds will be defenseless against an onslaught of giants, accelerating the inevitable doomsday.
To make matters worse, the only entity who can broker a deal for the hammer's return is the gods' most notorious enemy: Loki, the Trickster God and father of Magnus's newest, enigmatic, and gender-fluid hallmate, Alex Fierro. Loki demands a very high price for his cooperation, forcing Magnus and his friends—Samirah al-Abbas, Hearthstone, and Blitzen—into another perilous quest across the Nine Worlds. They must navigate treacherous landscapes, outwit mythical beings, and confront the ever-present threat of Ragnarok looming closer.
As Magnus and his companions race against time, they uncover a plot far more sinister than a simple missing hammer. They delve deeper into the complex and often dysfunctional world of the Norse gods, facing moral dilemmas and personal challenges. The quest not only tests their courage and loyalty but also forces them to confront their own identities and the true meaning of heroism in a world where the line between good and evil is constantly blurred.
